Help with new build

Thread Starter
I'm on a ~$850 budget (without rebates) and want a good gaming system

I also included Windows 7 ($100) in the budget but it's not shown above

Is this a good system or I need to improve it

Also should I use the Geforce 560 or the ATI 6870HD

The processor and HDD selections are good.

The first thing that jumps is the power supply. The PSU is an extremely important component that you don't want to skimp on. I'd look at this thread to find a recommended power supply: http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...-supplies.html

The RAM isn't a bad choice, but you can get RAM with a faster clock at a similar price point. Look at DDR3 1600 Mhz (or higher) RAM, as the prices are falling. G.Skill and Corsair are both trusted brands.

As said, go P67 if you want to overclock. If not, drop the K processor and you can stick with H67.

Here's a thread comparing current-gen GPU's: http://www.overclock.net/graphics-ca...time-last.html

The 6870 only barely beats the GTX560 so it's really a matter of preference between the two. The 6870 is currently priced a little better, however.

And what games do you want to be able to play and on what settings?

I just changed the PSU with the Antec 500W

I play games like Crysis 2 and portal 2 and want to use them at 1920x1200 with no AA or 1680x1050 with 4x AA (I had to use them at 1280x1024 with no AA on my old PC)

I'd recommend getting a GTX460 1GB instead of 560...it'll save you ~$50 and the performance should be fine for you. However, I would recommend (if you live near one), getting a P67 and 2500k combo deal at Microcenter...you'll get a LOT more bang for your buck than a locked 2500 and H67 board. Also, you can get much better RAM for cheaper (Fry's has 8GB DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance 1.5V on sale for $31 AR)!

Other issue that stood out was the PSU, but looks you've already taken care of that.
