Got a GTX470, want to do some hardware mods - You choose!

Hey guys, It's been a while since I spent some serious time on OCN, but I've got a lil extra time now I've gotten myself a job at Intel (Woohoo!)

Anyhoo, I've always been fascinated and interested in circuit level hardware mods, and I have the skill and knowledge to handle just about any rework you throw at me. I want to have some fun with my GTX470 (or my spare GTX460), but I also want to have fun in a way that increases it's performance.

Edit: I decided to go with modding the GTX 460 since it runs nice and cool and is a less expensive doorstop if anything goes wrong

Here's what I've got to work with:

- EVGA GTX470 SSC 1.2GB
- Galaxy GTX460 1gb
- Several Low-Profile Radeon HD3450 cards (Power Color brand)
- Allegro Board File reader
- Metcal MX-500 soldering station with numerous tips (and tweezers)
- Bausch 48x Zoom Bifocal Armature Microscope w/ Fiber-lite Lamp
- SAS Preheating oven
- Fluke Voltmeter
- Every SMD passive component imaginable
- Lots of DDR2/DDR3 sticks of memory laying around
- BGA/SRT removal and placement machine (fully automated)
- BGA reballing station
- 4 years of soldering and rework experience

What I DONT have:

Working knowledge of voltage regulation in regard to GFX overclocking
nVidia board files / schematics
An idea to work from to have some fun with my GFX card(s)!

I'd really like to learn more about these kinds of mods and reworks, and I've got the technical skill to do just about any mod, as long as I have a pinout guide and an idea of what test points and voltages I need to be looking for.

I'll post pics of every step of the way and we can have a nice little experiment!

UPDATE 8/17/11:

Ok got pics of the board for you guys to see, got em as high quality as I could. Hope it's enough.

2 reserves? wow

I know on my 275 there is a hardware voltage control mod, but i think 470's have software control so that wont help.

ok well, for the sake of safety lets go with the Galaxy GTX460 for now. I'll get some pics of the clean board up tonight or tomorrow morning as I'm still in the office and didn't bring the cards in to work.

@FtW 420: I've read through alot of the stuff in these sections and I get some of it, but again I don't have a working knowledge with the specific voltages I'd be dealing with, and more importantly how certain components will effect the circuit. So for at least my first voltmod I'd like a bit of a more comprehensive walk-through of exactly what to stick where, and why.

Also I had an idea of possibly stuffing missing vmem slots with chips pulled from those radeon cards, which I realize is a slim chance given that I dont know the ratings of the surrounding passive components and the BIOS may not like it.

2 reserves for lots of pics

Ah I see you're using a HTC Vision camera. Anyways .

I'm not sure about a 470 or a 460 but I've got a 9800 GT and I want to do a hard mod. It's just that I don't know how to do it properly . Can I send you the card and the guide? Maybe you can push it to 1.5v .
