must be some set of transistors. The board is supposed to come with a warranty so why don't you just send it back. It is a very nice board so don't let it go to waste

it looks like a transistor, i brought it faulty online, i have the bit thats come off, could it be soldered back

I am wondering why you do not post a picture of the loose part itself (and not just circle a picture of it). It appears you are pointing to an integrated circuit that has probably 8-10 soldered down legs. Now how all these solder points (really electrical contacts or paths) could have come free (free enough to allow the part to rattle in the box) at the same time is going to take some looking over.

It is called an IC or integrated circuit (think of it as a whole lot of transistors and other connective electronic components). You can research the number on the body of the IC and get an idea of what it does but chances are it needs to be properly connected

These components are placed on the board by a machine, and machine soldered. The question is how the board got by quality control (and a function test) with the part cut off the board like it is.Can you post any numbers or sequence of letters and numbers found on the body of the IC? then we can find out what it does.

It was probably handled rough while it was shipped. Just send the board back ASUS will get you a new one right quick.
