CPU Temp vs Core Temps

Thread Starter
So I overclocked my Q9450 yesterday, and my CPU is idling at 38*c right now. However, all 4 of my cores are anywhere between 45-50. When it comes to temperatures, should I focus on my cores or on my CPU?

And what temp should my cores all be at? What is too hot?

The core temps are all that matter.

For the Q9450, the maximum safe temp is about 100°C because that is the "Tj. Max". This is the temperature where the CPU will either throttle itself down or turn itself off in order to avoid being harmed by the heat.

Have you overclocked it?

Yeah those are my temps with the OC. I am currently running at 7 * 485 with a voltage of 1.35 (1.4 is supposedly the max)

Idle temps aren't as important as temps under full load.If you are idling at 50 what is your full load temps with prime 95?

CPU sticks around 70ish (68-72). Cores are getting up to 80... should I be concerned?

I've been wondering this too, my E7500 at 3.8GHz loads at around 74C for the CPU and 66-68C for the cores under P95, is that too high?

I would try and keep the core temps no higher than 70c or lower for 24x7 use. But I like to stay on the safe side.

Well, they are only hitting 80 when using Prime95 to stress test. My idle temps (which they spend most of the time) are in the mid/low 40s. When Stress test they were steady around 75, but would spike up to 80.

So I am not sure what my temps will be like gaming yet, since I haven't really gamed yet. Just ran Prime95 is about all I have done so far.

Also I should note...

I currently have my specs set to 7 * 485 so that I get a (near) 3.4 overclock. I have my voltage set ti 1.35. Maybe I should reduce my voltage to cool it down a bit. Anyone know what a possible good voltage might be?

EDIT

I found a post from one of my earlier posts that I didn't check up on till now...

I set both GTL refs at .635, my NB volts at 1.20v, CPU PLL at 1.54v with LLC set to enabled. I would set CPU Spread Spectrum to disabled. Play with those settings, and 3.6 should be easy.
So right now I went 7*485 with a voltage of 1.35 because its similar to a video I saw online. Which was not the best or most detailed. Would going to 8*448 with a voltage of only 1.3 possibly run cooler?

I just get confused witht he whole voltage and multipliers. I was never sure if I should mess with the multiplier or bus more. Why use 7 * 485 as opposed to 8 * 425 if they give the same results?

Im such a noob -_-
