Exceeding 70 when stress testing is very safe.

EDIT

I found a post from one of my earlier posts that I didn't check up on till now...

So right now I went 7*485 because its similar to a video I saw online. Which was not the best or most detailed. Would going to 8*448 with a voltage of only 1.3 possibly run cooler?

I just get confused witht he whole voltage and multipliers. I was never sure if I should mess with the multiplier or bus more. Why use 7 * 485 as opposed to 8 * 425 if they give the same results?

Im such a noob -_-
I recommend using the multiplier of x8 because then you'll be able to use a lower FSB clock speed which should make it easier to overclock. Generally, there's not much of a good reason to adjust the multiplier.

Anyway, I need to talk about your temps: did you say that your cores are idling between 45-50? Those are safe temps, but they are much higher than they should be for idling.

Yeah they are a bit high. I am ordering new fans today as well as a new heatsink to get the temps down. Also as I mentioned I have my voltage at 1.35 which I am going to change as well. Since some are telling em the higher the voltage the higher the temps.

But a new question, my ram is only DDR2 800. Does this mean I shouldn't even increase my FSB above 400? Right now I have the timing manually set to 5-5-5-15, with a voltage manually set to 2.2.

Here is my ram.

I try and keep your ram as close to a 1:1 ratio with stock
timings as you can until you get a stable OC on your CPU.

Can you change the strap?

FSB to NB Strap 200,266,333,400
This should give you DRAM Frequency options.

Well, I have some questions:
  • Where do you keep your rig? Is it in an open area, or in an enclosed area like a deskhole?
  • Is it hot in your computer room right now? I mean, what's the air temperature like that's being pulled in by the intake fans on the case? Would you say its, cool, comfortable, warm, or hot?
  • Is the heatsink secure? Or, can you wobble/wiggle it or move it at all?

It can take some playing around in the BIOS, but I believe that you should be able to get it either very close to 800 MHz, or even exactly 800.

I'm a bit sleepy right now and so I'll be going to bed in an hour or so, but otherwise I'd probably check the manual. I had an EP45-UD3P that allowed me to keep my memory at exactly 800MHz.

Its beside my desk but nothing enclosing it.
My apartment is probably about 65 degrees (live in seattle)
And the heatsink is secure as can be, bolted down and doesnt move.
I found out that my back fan is dead so its being replaced.

Wait I am confused.. I thought I shouldn't take my bus over 400? Or did the newbie guide lie to me? It sounded like since I am using DDR2 800, my FSB max would be 400? Of which right now I have it at 485 apparently...

Also here is a link with all my OC stats..
