New 2500k Motherboard Suggestions!

post #1 of 34
Thread Starter
Hey everybody.

I'm buying a new Core i5 2500k from Newegg Friday and need some suggestions on a good motherboard to go with it. This is for gaming and I plan to overclock a bit and want to get it around 3.8ghz or 4ghz. I've always been AMD/ATI, but am switching to Nvidia/Intel and already have my GTX 560 Ti.

I don't really want to spend any more than $150, but will a bit more if I have to and it's worth it, but it can't go over $200. I haven't kept up with the different Intel north bridges so I don't know which is best for gaming and has best performance.

Oh and is ASRock and Biostar any good? They've always seemed like the budget, lower quality MBs to me.

Biostar TP67XE is the bang for the buck mobo.Or Else get the ASUS P8P67 PRO.

Hey once you get your new chip you will definitely be looking a higher overclock than 3.8-4.0, these chips do them speeds at stock volts most of the time. ASrock have some nice quality boards out atm and any board will take you chip to those speeds so it depends on what you need just. Have a look at this thread, it might help you decide:

The msi board i have in my sig or the gd55/53 variants are not bad cheap boards.

What's the difference between the P67 and Z68? Which one is more keyed toward performance than the other?
post #5 of 34
P67 = Gamers Chipset/High perf
Z68 = Not much/no gaming apart from stuff like Flash Games, and casual usage.

Also, If you grab the Mobo Collins has got (Also, in my sig rig) It's a decent price for what you get, AND, You can SLI your GTX 560 later down the road when you're running out of GPU Power.

The ASRock 1155 mobo's have actually been getting pretty descent reviews. I was thinking about getting one paired with a 2500k at MC for $280 out the door, but I decided to wait.

I'll look into that, I'm still debating on my Mobo.. Needs 1155 + SLi. Hard choices

That seems like an awesome board.. But, the cheaper P8P67 performs better it seems, and for cheaper.. But the ASUS Sabretooth seems to best them all, At not too much more cost, But it seems to have everything yours has, but just improved on.

Sabretooth P67

Asrock Extreme4
