Dual Link DVI or DisplayPort?

Thread Starter
I have both options on my gpu's. I remember reading about this a while back but can't quite remember the differences.

My setup is three DELLU2311H, each with dvi and displayport connectors on the back for my choosing. Resolution will be: 5760 x 1080.

Will I see any difference between the two options, 3 displayport cables or 3 dual link dvi cables?

DVI-D and DP are relatively the same, DP just has more bandwidth (I believe?).

DP has the ability to "daisy-chain" monitors, so there's not a mass of cords coming out the back of your computer/can use 1 port rather than 3-5.

I'd use the DP cables just to not have to screw them in/out if you need to work on your PC.

theoretically there isnt supposed to be any difference. but some gpu's have glitches with displayport.. some even have the bugs with dvi. displayport like hdmi supports audio, and since your monitors don't have speakers i wouldnt say it matters which connector you pick.

Shouldn't matter, but depending on your GPU setup you might have to use certain connectors to get it working (EyeFinity is a bit weird). But I think Display Port theoretically has more bandwidth than DVI, but if your screens are only 1080p each it's not going to matter.

I have the same screens and they work fine with either of these. However, unless you have FleX edition card you would have to use at least one displayport connection when running three screens.

I personally prefer displayport over DVI as I like the connectors a bit better (the lock in them so they dont just drop out if you move around your PC) and displayport just feels better mechanically for me. In my current card I have only one displayport connector though so I'm running only one of my monitors in displayport.

like what was said before unless you have one of those special flex cards you will have to use at least 1 displayport connection in your eyefinity setup.

In real world for the most part you wont notice the difference between DP and DVI but iirc DP is technically superior

1. It has the capability for audio
2. It has the bandwidth for 2560x1600 @ 120hz (DVI does not)
3. Support for 10bit color

wether any of those are actually any benefit to you is a whole nother story lol
