Ubuntu 10.04 LTS & lm-sensors

Thread Starter
Ok, I've been trying to get this to work with my motherboard and it does not find sensors. I have a Gigabyte GA-P67A-D3-B3. I've been googling/reading everything I can and I just can't find anything that makes sense for a linux noob.

I've found this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/inde...t-1666626.html but I truly don't know what any of these guys are talking about.

If there is anyone with the same mobo or just someone who could possibly shed any light on the situation it would be greatly appreciated.

open up a terminal:

sudo nano /etc/modules

add this at the bottom:

coretemp

ctrl+o to save, ctrl+x to exit.

you can now restart, but if you want to avoid that, just type this line in:

sudo modprobe coretemp

with this at least your cpu/cores should load.

if that doesn't work, you will need to compile the latest lm-sensors from source or find a update package for it, as packages like this for 10.04 might be a bit old for sandy.

Here is what I get when I type in "sudo modprobe coretemp" (without quotes)

FATAL: Error inserting coretemp (/lib/modules/2.6.32-33-generic/kernel/drivers/hwmon/coretemp.ko): No such device

Any ideas? I'm going to look for the new lm-sensors....gotta figure out how to compile/install all that jazz I'm so worn out from troubleshooting other people's issues all day I have no patience for my own ha.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kernel-ppa/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-2.6.38-1-generic linux-image-2.6.38-1-generic

update to the latest kernel, and then either rerun sudo sensors-detect or manual load coretemp (you could also try pkgtemp, but not sure if that one will work.)

Is it safe to run 2.6.38 on 10.04? In the repos we're only at 2.6.32... Sorry for threadjacking btw.

yeah it should be fine. i know people on 10.04 that are on 3.0.0. and if it does go wrong, ubuntu does save your old kernel, so you can boot into if need be.

Just out of curiosity...why would someone with SB be using a release that's older than their hardware? Is there a reason that you aren't using 11.04? And if you say unity then you need to just find another DE/WM because Kubuntu and the other variants are just fine.
