Flashing 6950 to 6970, truly bad?

Thread Starter
So I'm just wondering, is flashing the 6950 to a 6970 bios actually bad for it? I currently have mine unlocked because I heard bad things about flashing it. I guess the difference that makes it "bad" would be that the ram timings on it are different. But now I'm wondering, has anyone actually broken their HD6950 from having it flashed to a 6970?

Mostly wondering cuz my card is being lame and for some reason won't overclock past 840/1325, even with adjusting voltages.

Thanks!
Alice

There can be problems such as artifacts and freezing. But do you have the reference 6950? I wouldn't bother flashing it. Just keep an overclock.

Yeah, I got my Sapphire Hd6950 back in April and I had it Flashed to 6970 for a few days before I returned it to stock then unlocked it instead.

I'm just kinda confused as to why I can't get above 840/1325, that's why I was asking.

that is what it is locked to in CCC if you are familar with Registry editing use this tutorial: http://www.techimo.com/forum/graphic...reg-entry.html

how-ever if you are not familar with ti dont even mess with it you can fudge up a lot by changing very little. This tutorial was what i used, but if your not familar with it just use a 3rd party OCing program like [URL="http://www.sapphireselectclub.com/ssc/TriXX/TriXX.aspx"]Sapphire Trixx/URL]

After i reread that, i may have just read the thing completely wrong. Is it unstable after 840/1325 or is it the end of the slider?

No, I'm not having problems OCing it, I can get it up to whatever I want. Problem is that I can't adjust Voltage in Afterburner because I play BFBC2, and for it to run BFBC2 you need to remove the RTCore.cfg file. Once you remove that file, you can no longer adjust the voltages on it.

But... I've used Sapphire Trixx as well, I pumped it up to 1.200 and it still crashes BFBC2, unless there's something in Trixx that kills BFBC2 as well.

Seems like Tweek and Chow haven't had problems with theirs flashed. Anyone actually have proof of their vidcard being damaged? If you do get artifacts and shiz, can you fix that?

Thanks!

Use RBE to flash your voltage changes, and racerx mod to unlock catalyst overdrive limits = win.

Btw flashing to 6970 kills kittens, or some would have you believe... lol.

So I would just use RBE to do voltage and use the Racerx mod to let me overclock higher in CCC?
