1) Remove from box
2) connect LAN devices to LAN ports, cable modem to WAN port, power
3) go to http://192.168.1.1 from LAN PC
4) Provision wireless security & settings
5) ???
6) Profit.

Really? Is it that hard to hook up a router?

As long as the router isn't a DLink then do what beers says and it should work fine.

Funny, it sounds like you want someone to hold your hand. Read the manual.

Yeah see that is the most difficult part when you have no clue what any of it means.

I don't know, I can tear a carburetor apart and rebuild it yet for some reason it seems other people struggle. Have no clue why really.

I am trying to do it right and thought if asked here people would be able to provide some advanced knowledge that goes beyond the simplicity of the manual.

I would prefer to do it correctly as to not leave myself open.

But thank you for reminding me why I avoid this room at all costs.

All you have to do is set your SSID, pick WPA2 and make a passphrase.

Pick up one of the beginning Networking books, not a wireless specific book, and read the chapter on wireless technology. This chapter is only going to be about 20 pages and after that the terminology will not scare you and you can show some where to place the power valve.

Wireless is sending and recieving packets (networking deals with packets, they look like little envelopes)with a good portion of security thrown in. Networking is my favorite part of what is going on here, but it is not at all easy,I also would do better on that carb. My first course was not a beginners course but the first CCNA course (this is a CISCO exam) I was totally blown away trying to grasp all that was being laid out with these models of how the internet works.I should have started out with the CompTIA course but I did not know any better.
