Getting 850w PSU and need a new surge protector.

Thread Starter
I'm putting together my first build tomorrow which uses a Corsair AX850. My current desktop died yesterday ( ) and I suspect that it's because of a power surge. My current surge protector is pretty old so I need some suggestions for a new one. Please help.

Any of Belkin's surge protectors are pretty good.

These people that make and sell these low level surge protectors would like to have you think that they actualy will protect you computer from damage due to voltage spikes but I feel that at best they can protect against corruption of data. There are products available that actually will protect against damage to components from voltage spikes (think lighting strike) but they get added at the breaker box of your house. Data coruption protection yes, protection from actual high voltage on the AC line,no.

EDIT: I would put the product I use the APC ES 550 in the "better than nothing" group and with all the lighting strikes we have in Tucson I should take my own advice a bit more seriously. I have lost 1 cpu and 1 mobo from lighting.

Get this, where I live there's always crazy lighting. I'm not risking my first beast build. After you buy it you get some nice promo code just for you to use! Especially if you are building your rig again.

Sad to say but the really efective lighting protective units need to be installed at the house breaker box and have all around higher capabilities.

EDIT: Do a bit of googling around and you will get the real deal on lighting protection.I had to write a paper a few years ago and I chose lighting protection. To really protect the home it was from 350.00 to 500.00
