Voltage confusion

In the BIOS i set my Vcore to 1.6V to try and max my OC.

In CPU-Z, its only showing the Vcore as 1.488V.

Which is more accurate?

Is it safe to leave this running if the Vcore shows only 1.488V in CPU-Z?

Is it 1.488V under load or while idling?

If it's 1.488V while idling (that is, in CPU-Z), then that's vDrop. If it's 1.488V under load in CPU-Z, then that's vDroop. Both are normal.

In other words, the voltage displayed by programs like CPU-Z is the actual voltage that is running through the CPU. Now, I think 1.488V is high but still safe for 65nm Core2's.

Yea, i know its sort of high. I was trying to push it pretty far.

Its 1.488V under load, when i stop the stress test it goes to 1.496V.

I am still not sure why i have to set the Vcore in BIOS to 1.6V to pull this kind of Voltage.

There is a pencil mod you can do for your board to help eliminate the v-droop. There are some details in this thread.

When the voltages get this high, it can be very normal to have more vDrop (that is, the idle voltage in Windows).

Check out the system monitor in your BIOS: your core voltage should be showing approximately 1.488 to 1.496V (or 1.48V to 1.49V if it only shows 2 decimal places).
