[SOLVED] Uh Oh.. 8gb (7.37 Usable)

Thread Starter
Thats what it says when I right click my computer and hit properties. I upped the voltage to 1.41 last night on my CPU but didnt change RAM settings, it was running fine. Now I just used photoshop and it told me it didnt have enough memory to run, so I rebooted and thats what I found... Did I break the RAM?

sounds suspicious. try running some hardware diagnostics to make sure none of the modules fried.

Have you tried turning it back down to see if it improves?

just downclocked everything to stock with a reboot before I did it. No changes for both attempts.

Buddy of mine says there might be a memory remap feature in the bios but i had no problems before and sure as heck didnt change anything.

Take your "perhaps" damaged ram and try it on another computer and see if it's really damaged.

Good luck!

Well I took it out and left 4gb in, and now it just says 4gb and instead of having a parenthetical statement. I didn't try reversing and putting th supposed damaged dimms in. Ill use it on my upcoming htpc and see what it does. But im guessing ill just rma it.

happened to me before. Make sure you dont have any gpu ram sharing enabled. and disable anything that says anything to do with the igp. It should be in the overclocking section where your cpu overclocking is , towards the end of the page maybe.

There is no IGP on the 890FX board...
If you can run memory remapping feature, do it.

I looked for a feature like that and didn't find one when the problem first came up, although ill research the board to see if it actually provides a feature like that.

Ok so update: I put in 2 dimms equaling 8gb instead of the 4 dimms that i had previously that equaled 8gb, and im still getting the same reading (7.37 out of 8gb). And when I put in 4gb more it drops to 6gb... bad motherboard or slot? BUT if I only put in 4gb, everything reads fine. so what in the heck is going on?
