[SOLVED] Uh Oh.. 8gb (7.37 Usable) - Page 2

Try running just the potentially "bad" stick of ram and see what the computer reports. If it reports 4GB, then you have a bad/damaged RAM slot on your motherboard. If it reports the drop in ram again then its a bad stick of it.

I did something similar. I put in 12gb of RAM and only 7.37gb are usable. Could this be an OS thing, perhaps? it's 64bit so I should be fine but could there be a setting? Because at this point I've done the DIMM configs that all the sticks could be "Bad" so I don't think it's a stick of ram... It's gotta be a slot(s) or the OS.

try resetting bios, i'm guessing it has something to do with memory remapping, i had similar issue where system showed 3.25gb instead of 4gb bcuz i might have disable/enable memory remapping.

It's not a bad stick of ram, or a bad motherboard slot. Either one would cause the computer to not run, not report a different amount of memory. The difference has to be either a setting in the BIOS that needs to be changed, or your motherboard only supports up to 7.37GB, or the memory is being partially shared by something, etc. It's not a hardware problem - it's a software or firmware problem.

I've reset the bios and to no avail. As for something sharing it... I'm still looking around to find out what would be, between the GPU and page filing which is disabled anyways.

LOL I just tried that before I saw this post. I'm good to go now. Solved! And no, what you do is simply uncheck it. Well now I feel proud. Thanks for your help, though, I would have seen this eventually!

Also I think what triggered it was that I put windows 7 into test mode to run scripts with unsigned certificates. Didn't occur to me until now... figures. heh. Thanks again everyone!
