Graphics Card for a Dell

Thread Starter
Hello, my friend has this Dell and wants to upgrade the graphics... Budget is around $80, and he plays WoW mostly and other MMO's. I was thinking a 6670 but I've been out of the PC parts game for a little...

EDIT: or a 6450? WoW is more CPU heavy anyway, and I'm concerned about the OEM PSU in that thing...

Is that another BTX model or ATX? Dell has many BTX and ATX motherboards/ cases now. Also what card is he using right now?

Not sure about the mobo but it's running integrated graphics now.

Well first find out if it even has an available PCI-E slot, then we can see what we can do. Also what about power cables? Any free 6-pin cables (no way you'll run an 8pin or 6+8pin of a dell stock PSU).

6450 is more than enough
-my friend plays transformers war for cybertron at man 1650x1050 with pentium dual core 2 gb ddr2 and a 4350 and his pc probably has better ram and cpu so he's good.

WoW is not that much of a load and does not have heavy graphics so y worry

as the previous comments have said, you have to check if the psu has a 6pin connector or not.

i actually was able to power my 4850 on an inspiron 530 even though i had a 400w psu.

once you find how much power the psu can give, then you can start searching for a fitting video card.

Pretty sure it has an open PCI-E x16 and judging by the specs no PCI-E power connectors, it's a 300W PSU anyway so one 6 pin alone would be a significant part of the power usage...

There won't be any 6-pin.

OEM PSU isn't shoddy, it's just underpowered and an antiquated design that evens out the load on 5V and 12V.

A HD5670 would be good.

EDIT: Check if his motherboard supports PCIe V2.0 at least.

The HD5k series and above are PCIe 2.1 cards, and will work in 2.0 boards but NOT in v1.1 boards.
