[ATD] Seeking Street Cred, HTC Investing $300 Million in Beats Electronics

It's funny because it's Beat...
Quote:
Beats CEO (and legendary music producer) Jimmy Iovine told AllThingsD that the partnership with HTC is just the latest piece of his crusade to improve the sound in modern electronics. Iovine said that the shift from listening to music on stereos to one where MP3s are played on computers has led to “an entire generation lost to bad-sounding music.”

While the move to digital has seen TV move to high-definition, Iovine said audio quality has actually declined. “We went to digital and got worse,” he said. “That’s unacceptable. What has to happen is anyone who makes consumer electronics that transmits music has to be encouraged — to put it mildly — to have great audio.”

Beats has also honed its pitch to electronics makers — helping them avoid becoming just one of many sound-alike products.

“You cant really exist as a consumer electronics company and not become a commodity unless you understand popular culture,” he said. In addition to HP, Beats also has its Beats by Dr. Dre line of headphone products with Monster.

HP and Monster have beats. The markup on those stupid headphones is double what retailers pay. What a rip, Interscope and Dr. Dre were cool in 1994? lol gimme break. Introducing: Kris Kross Headphones - "You'll Jump when you hear the price."

This is a HTC Fail IMO, if this were Apple this thread would be closed after 2 pages, maybe less.

Bottom line I didn't expect this from HTC, maybe Motorola or even Samsung, but not HTC. Why HTC,Why?

Is "Beats technology" anything but a sticker? Because I don't see what's so difficult about implementing a standard stereo audio circuit that HTC can't do it themselves.

Had a listen to his 'high quality' headphones in a store the other day, they sounded terrible... it might've been what was driving them but my AT SQ5's smash them, especially considering the price difference.

He is right though, recently people have stopped caring about audio quality, uncompressed CD's to 128kbps MP3's, amplifiers with a good set of speakers to the speakers that come with in TV, most peoples standards sound quality wise have dropped significantly. If he actually makes people care about sound quality again, then I'm not complaining.
