Hi, So today suite of a big virus my coworker got, i told him to put ubuntu on his pc instead. so he did it everythign went well and he told me i should try it again.

so here i am, download Ubuntu 11.04 AMD64 (got 8gb ram).

Install went well, Video Card work, Sound, Wifi, Lan everything

But i can't stand unity so i decide to try gnome 3. and guess whats i love it!

But there is my big problem, i try to install a theme for it a didnt work well telling me that i didnt had gnome.....

anyway how can i manage the theme easily like before on gnome 3?

Thanks

just fyi, theming seems to be the downfall for the early days of gtk3 hopefully it will come around...

it sounds like either something weird is happening, or you are trying to install a gtk2 theme where gnome3 is gtk3 (much less theme selection)

an error message would be nice and helpful
Kinda meh now...

Gnome 3 is still a work in progress for Ubuntu. It should be fully implemented by 11.10. As or now, themes and some other things don't quite work or are buggy. Even though I really liked the new UI too, I had to switch back to the old one due to the bugs and inconveniences yet to be resolved.

If you don't like Unity (it has its share of bugs too), you can always use the old Gnome 2 interface instead. Just choose the "Gnome Classic" session on the login screen after selecting your name. Ubuntu 11.04 includes Unity and Gnome UIs.

On a side note, if you are new to Linux, you might want to install Linux Mint instead. It is based on Ubuntu, but it includes the common packages, codecs, and configurations that most people use. They are not restricted by licensing philosophies as much.

Cheers.

and i already build my own gentoo, (took 3 week but.. did it!) just this is my personal laptop i just want it working

at least now i fix my color i'm back to normal gnome 3....

If you wanna use Gnome 3, go Fedora, not Ubuntu.
