A couple noob questions

Thread Starter
I am in the process of setting up a new computer system. I want to setup a storage solution for media (Music, pics, Videos) that can be shared across my network. I am in between a NAS Solution, something like this or just adding a RAID to my computer and share it through windows (That's what I see as a downfall). I will have the 800D case with the 4 hot swap drives i5-2500k on liquid and an asus p8p67 mobo. I would like to do a RAID6 or 1+0 (Though I have never used a raid in my life)

1) What solution would be more cost effective.
2) What solution would work better? Does this outweigh #1?
3) How much will the RAID tax my comptuer if I go that route?

4) If you have a RAID 6 what happens if you want to ADD more storage (ie another drive?)
5) Do all the drives have to be the same specs or does it default to the worst?

Thanks a lot

I think it would be simpler and faster if you use an SSD for a boot drive and then use either a Western Digital Black 1TB or SamsungF3 spinpoint as your storage solution.

I plan to use this Crucial SSD for boot and a game or two. I am interested in the RAID due to redundancy. At this point I don't really need over 2TB of useful storage, but I'm assuming it's safe to say that at some point I WILL need more storage, that's why I asked about expanding a RAID... If I made a RAID 6 with 4 1.5TB drives I would have 3TB of useable space, then what if a year from now I add another 1.5TB drive, is that possible? What happens with the DATA?
