Yeah okay. Except out of that 10 million there is maybe 5 million that actually pay the subscription and play. I have an account, my girlfriend does too but we haven't played for a long time. I used to know about a dozen people (in real life) that played but now there's maybe 3 of them that do. Our server is pretty dead the last time (about 8 months ago) my girlfriend was on. All the old guild mates were gone.

Free to play is the new MMO model of the future. LoTRO actually made a lot more money after switching to FTP. It brings the casual gamers in to try it and if they like it they pay a little here and there. The hardcore players keep the premium accounts because... they are addicted and have no life, lol.

(If this has already been answered, sorry I did not read through the whole thread)

They are actually working on one called "Titan". That's all that has been released, the name and that they are making it towards casual gamers. I don't get how you can get any more casual than how woW currently is, making raids easy as hell. (This is my opinion, I don't mean to cause a nerd rage/flame war.)

Age of Conan doubled its income by going free to play also.

I have played TONS of F2P games and they all go through that cycle.

That and of course tons and tons of hackers (hack-->Get banned--->Create new account---->repeat)
Because Blizzard is making you stick your hands in your pockets and spend money that you don't want to spend, right?

This. They really think people like me - the PvPers who were "Bleeding Edge" - are going to PAY MONEY to play an imbalanced MMO that is ruined because of the differences of PvE and PvP?

LOL Lets see how long this lasts, it'll flop immediately if this goes into effect. They missed one thing: do PvPers enjoy playing.

The only reason Blizz would go down the FTP path is to save the game and as it stands the game needs saving. They keep talking about number of accounts but that means nothing, the moment they release accurate subscriber numbers people will see WoW has lost millions of players. This is exactly what we see in EVE too but there CCP can't hide it because of websites that track player counts on the server.

If you look at this site you will see that there's been no growth in EVE in over a year and numbers have actually dropped. Now CCP have also introduced micro transactions, which they promised they wouldn't do a year ago.

These companies are being killed off not just by their own stupidity (CCP management and devs are incredibly stupid) but also by the same forces that are destroying the world fiat economy.

Might want to correct yourself:

Nobody goes by accounts made unless it's a purely free-to-play MMO, Blizzard aren't silly to stamp the 10million+ number on their game - they know it's the subscriptions that count.

guildwars isn't f2p. You pay for the disc, that's all. That makes it not f2p, but not p2p either.

They need saving from the $150M+ they pull in every month from subs?

Yes, blizzard will give up 15$ a month from 10 million people just to make people happy, and keep the game as is with all its costs...

Yeah I see that happening.

Oh, and hell called, said its air condition got stuck on -20c and they froze over.
