I ran in here to save you but it doesn't look like you've been burnt too much.

Steam is awesome and I love it because they have awesome sales that drain my wallet.

Does Steam keep your keys so that if your computer catches on fire you can just log in and redownload them?

Yes, all of your account information is stored on Valve's servers. You can login to your account from virtually any computer as long as you authorize it through Steam Guard or just turn Steam Guard off.

Steam is getting annoying. I dislike the fact that more and more games require you to run Steam to play a game, even if its a single player game. Plus the prices are usually a rip off. Don't talk to me about Steam sales, because if you miss it then the game goes right back up to its ridiculous price. OP you have been warned.

Most of the 'Steam' games can be played offline, either by settings your account as offline (from within the client) or launching direct from the executable in the steamapps.. If it does need steam, you could always 'legally' use a no-cd / cracked exe (backing up your steam exe first) and then launch the game You do own the game afterall, and its not like you're trying to play it for free

and to the OP, have you ever used Xfire? probably not.. and no NOT crossfire... Xfire (Gaming IM platform) xD

Just think of Steam as your favourite IM client.. But with a store and a games library (with ingame 'IM' overlay).

P.S. to everyone else here, I also have my CD Keys backed up outside of Steam.. Just incase I ever hit a dire / problomatic time with Steam

Edit: The only thing I hate about some games (Steam has little to no control over) is 'Always Online' DRM.. That seriously agrivated me during the RUSE beta and I'm glad Ubisoft removed it xD

Steam is awesome, I only really use it for older games, indie games or offers. I prefer to have a physical copy of a game, but if it's on offer, or if it's old, I'll get it on steam.

Yes, Steam is water in it's 4th state - electronic. Sometimes I feel like waterboarding it in its own liquid form, so as to extract information (keys) from it, or freezing it solid for the lulz, but alas it is not possible.
