Mini-Fridge Mod

Thread Starter
No, I'm not going to put my PC in my mini fridge or anything of that sort. However I do have an old Avanti mini fridge I've inherited. Pretty old - wood grain vinyl door. But still works great.

I want to know how hard it'd be to mod the door to be a nice see-thru Plexiglas or something of that nature.

How expensive would this be? And what parts will I need?
Will post pics later of my fridge ..

I am honestly unsure of what you would need to do, but if you do decide to this, I suggest going with a dual pane solution, much like that of residential and commercial window panes.

Thanks for the info man! Going to go to home depot tomorrow to see what all they have to offer! Maybe I'll get lucky and find something!

Im sorry, but... isn't it cheaper to just buy a minifridge with a windows pane? I mean I've seen mini fridges for like 50 bucks...

You'll definitely want something that has great insulation. You don't want to cause that old pump to have to run more than it needs to, if you're leaking cold air out through your mod.

I'd honestly say try Home Depot, or maybe a local Window shop, and ask around at places like that....telling them your intentions. See if they can point you in the right direction.

But that ruins the entire FUN part of it, and the cool factor of doing it yourself. wink.gif

Also, wouldn't installing a window reduce the efficiency of the fridge?

Not if the glass (will probably need to be plexi glass honestly), is insulated well enough. I would imagine it'd be no different than the wood.

Of course, but how do you insulate a window? Dual pane?
