480 Temps/OC help

Thread Starter
Alright so I got my GTX 480 in today and I'm running 1100v,840 core, 2049 mem, I ran metro, crysis, bfbc2 highest temp it got was 67c. I ran furmark for around 15 minutes and hottest it got was 92c. My vantage score with physx on was 27478. I'm wondering if this is all reasonable and if it is how can I flash my card so these are the stock clocks or should I try to push it further and then flash it?

92c is getting a little close to to high. Try backing down your clocks a little?

I never use stress tests like furmark or occt for extended periods of time. They raise heat levels way higher than any game, which can do two things. 1) Damage your card and 2) make your OC unstable due to temp.

Best stress tests for gpu's is just to run games, or something like crysis benchmark.

To answer your question though, I think 1100v is probably a little high, i'd be going for closer to 1050-1080 for 24/7.

your temps are fine, and you really cant use OCCT/furmark temps in relation to daily usage....those are the max you will ever hit, and those benchmarks are primarily for stability testing.

can you lower your voltage at all?

I keep the volts stock in my 480's. they are such great cards no sense in over volting them when you can still get 763MHz with stock volts and thats in triple SLI.

To hit 860 MHz of course you must over volt but thats the 580's strength i dont think the 480 is that great of an overclocker due to the original GF100 design, more cache and transistors overall and higher running temp.
