I have a 945 for sale, I can do 100 shipped.
Pm me if you want it.
It clocks really nicely.

Anyway, I suggest getting at least 4 gb of ram as it is cheap cheap cheap right now.

If you dont know the latency of the ram how can you say its slow?

Is cas8 ddr3 at 1600 faster than cas 5 ddr2 at 800?

The occed cpu-nb on the maxxmem ddr2 screeny skews the results a little but the point remains the same, there is a hundred and something mb throughput between the 2.
Is it worth changing mobo and ram for?don't think so.

Problem is 2gb of ddr2 costs what 4gb of ddr3 does, but there is still the issue of a sensible mobo...
OP,put another 2gb in the motherboard and go for any compatible quad, but upgrade the cooler so you can OC it a little bit,if the motherboard allows.
If not then a 3ghz quad is still plenty for most games.hell a triple would be fine.
I love how you lowered the clock and NB speed on the DDR3 test side and cranked it way up on the DDR2 test to skew the results of your "test". Maybe you should have spent a few more minutes and photoshopped that up ..

Which makes the "comparison" even more odd and worthless. I am not sure what his payoff is in trying to convince somebody to stay with old memory is, the stuff is getting ridiculously cheap. Maybe he owns stock in a company that cranks out DDR2 still.

Look mate, at the end of the day, we're here trying to help the OP. He isnt building a monster rig, He's gaming on a budget. Not everybody needs the latest and greatest.
Sure in a perfect world, we'd all be running top of the line enthusiast "monsters", in which case we would all agree with you.

But he's not gaming on a 23" monitor, but rather a 17" @ 1024*768.

I hope I'm not coming across as argumentative, and I do agree with your advice for the most part, but in THIS case, it may not be the most practical solution.

Jadariin, Definitely go with the CPU upgrade, also are you using an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) version of windows?
Nope Im not using any OEM versions of windows. So I can switch out the mobo and cpu safely

Im not planning to buy anymore ram for ddr2 since its way OPed here compared to ddr3. If there is any consolation, ill plan to get the mobo and new ram after I get the cpu and card and get an OS upgrade too

I have a feeling it would be best to go with the majority here given I am on a tight budget and not planning to play on monster resolutions.

Yes, I understand the OP is looking to spend his money wisely. Take a look at the very first post after he asked his question:

He asked whether he should get a new CPU first or a new mobo first and I offered my honest opinion. Some others suggested that using slow old memory was fine ,which I know from personal experience is wrong, and I have tried to prove my point. Then came the guy posting a bogus "test" "showing" DDR2 being faster thean DDR3 when it clearly is not. I am not offended by your position on suggesting to the OP that he should get a cheap 4 core CPU rather than a modern mobo, I simply think it is not the wise way for him to use his money.
