The sad truth...

Thread Starter
So last christmas time, I took the plunge into a decent PC.

I played PS3 and Xbox 360 like MAD sunk 1000's of hours into it, but then started PC gaming, and it doesnt feel the same... I dont feel motivated to play a game. I can only play for an hour or so before I get aggravated or I don't enjoy the title.

i love MW2 so obviously got BLOPS, mainly for MP. But playing MP on pc isnt as fun... I find it aggravating, and I loose my temper. I bought other games, and I noticed another problem. you could buy a game at Game or something, and its guaranteed to work on your console..

But on a PC game, your always pooping your pants that it doesnt BSOD or crash on you. I find it quite nerve racking, what can I do to rekindle my love for gaming?

I'm not really sure I'm following you. You sound like you're talking about gaming on Linux. If your OS is up to date and in good shape (you didn't mess it up with unstable overclocks), with the latest drivers, everything should run smoothly. I'm big into FPS and I'm gonna start playing Metro 2033 and Dead Space 2 maxed out a 2560*1600 which is a unique experience you can't get on consoles. If you have some money, upgrade your peripherals and you might enjoy your games again.

1) If you are experiencing BSOD during gaming your overclock is unstable - hence the value of stress testing.

2) Your 6800gt next to your GTX 460 is probably the problem. The 6800gt is not really physx material, nor is it really next generation ready. Its designed to sit next to a phenom I or p4, not an i5 I think the lowest one that really would not be the bottleneck in your system would be a 9600gt, a 8800gtx would be better. Regardless, the 460 is so cheap right now you could really just get a second one, and SLI.

3)PC gaming is not the same, the feel of the WASD and mouse are very different from a control pad, but you can always get a x360 controller for your pc if you prefer that thumb control. The visuals are different, hopefully for the better, but if you are used to gaming on a large screen HDTV and suddenly are playing on a 21" monitor, that could be rather annoying.

To rekindle you PC gaming love, try playing some games that where designed for PC, rather than games that you used to play on the ps3 or X360. Look at it as a different experience. You play bops on the 360, play Crysis 2 or bf2bc on the PC. PC really shines in large openworld games, so grab a rpg or something of the such, but stay away from DNF(duke nukem forever = Did Not Finish)

You didn't say why you found things annoying

And like, so what. If you want to game on your consoles, fine, have fun, whatever. I don't care.

Is it possible you simply enjoy gaming on a console more? It's ok if you do.

I rarely ever play my PS3 anymore now that I've got my rig fully finished. I spend most of my time wishing Sony would release a PC-optimized version of Gran Turismo (hey, I can dream can't I)....

I had the exact opposite happen to me. I've always been a console gamer (since I was like 12 or 13), in fact, I'd owned an Xbox 360 for the last 5 years. Early this year I thought I was getting sick of video gaming, or at least the 360, so I sold it and bought a PS3. Well, about 2 months later, upon receiving a new laptop to replace my old clunker, and having the ability to play some games, I realized what I had been missing out on. I'm currently in the process of playing through my first single-player game on the pc (Dead Space 2) and I am nothing short of amazed. I absolutely love the m/k combo, the true 1080 res, and the actual time I've put in to get the game running beautifully. Honestly, I found that I have almost as much fun tinkering with the hardware and software than I do actually playing games. It sucks that you didn't find the same. Now to just figure out how I can rid myself of this PS3... MOAR REPSSSS!!

EDIT: I think I missed the last line of the OP. Hmmmmm... Play New Vegas on the PS3 and the PC side-by-side and then start spontaneously and uncontrollably sobbing in response to how truly disgusting the PS3 output is.

PC crashing? Game not running?

PBKAC!

Some solutions(might not apply to you, general) :

[already posted]- Keep everything updated.
- If you don't know anything about overclocking(like me), don't mess with anything.[/already posted]
- Clicking/Pressing random keys everywhere doesn't help.
- RTFM, always.

From what I see you don't understand pc's enough to enjoy it. If you don't like it let it go, it's just gaming...

Yeah it sounds like you just need practice, with 1000 hours of play you're going to be expecting to do well in online play but maybe you aren't, hence the frustration.
This is exactly why I can't get into League of Legends or similar games having played about 2000-3000 hours of CS:S.

I can play other FPS games because the skillset transfers over but I find it difficult to develop a new one from scratch, you probably get something similar going to a mouse and kb from a controller because it's a totally different interface.

BSOD issues are probably OC related, black ops doesn't crash on me but my rig is 100% folding stable so if it got a hardware related BSOD in a game I'd be surprised.
