Witcher 2 bad fps?

My PC details are in my signature.
I run the game on all maximum except for ubersampling and I get some weird-ass fps. It's 70-80fps generally but when I kill people and blood spurts out and whatnot, the fps plummets to about 15! What's this about??

It's also a bit laggy, 15fps or so again, when I first load the game...

that's just the way it is atm mate, everyone is having these issues tbh...

It's either a programming issue, driver issue or the hardware just isn't up to it yet.

Sorry

It might be interesting to run it with auto-detect settings and see if you experience the same behavior. If not then you should be able to tweak the settings. If you do then maybe something else is going on.

I've heard a lot of other people have had problems with it, but I did not notice any lag/stuttering when I played it. I obviously have different config so YMMV. BTW I just finished this game last night. Great RPG!

Um...auto detect just put me down to Low-spec...surely that can't be right?
I can run Crysis 2 DX11 all on ultra with the HD texture pack at 50-60fps...surely I can run the Witcher 2 on max (albeit without ubersampling). Very frustrating I must say.

*EDIT* Low spec fps ranges between 50-100 fps...

Wow low settings? That's odd. Maybe try it on the high spec profile (just beneath ultra), which is still probably really good.

I did notice some bugs in the game, mostly with lighting/gamma. Steam just installed a patch a day or two ago ... did you get that one already?

It auto detected my sig rig into low settings when I tried it too :S

Witcher 2 seems to have a veritable feast of random issues and no two people seem to have the same experience with it. All I would advise is trial and error to see if there was on particular setting causing problems.

yep, I'm all updated up. I'll mess around with the settings and tell you if I get the best balance. Seems like quite a poorly optimised game to me..

It has issues, that's for sure. Pity, because it is quite a good game.

Might be motion blur. It's shown that the effect can cause quite a bit of lag when you're turning alot (presumably you are during combat).
