Elderscrolls IV Oblivion Rendering Mod

post #1 of 19

I was wondering if anyone knew of a mod that would let me render grass and trees far off in the distance, full out. I have installed a bunch of other mods, and I'm running 60fps and stuff is still popping up infront of me.

that's pretty much how the game was conceived. It will be hard to not have those popups...but try the texture mods and unofficial oblivion patch.

You can adjust grass in the ini.

fGrassEndDistance
fGrassStartFadeDistance

You'll need to expand the uGridsToLoad to draw near detail farther out.

Also, there is:

uGridDistantTreeRange=15
uGridDistantCount=25

I can't remember the grass settings I used, but I remember using 7 for uGridsToLoad as the higher that goes, the more it screws up the water. For the last two, I think I used:

uGridDistantTreeRange=31
uGridDistantCount=39

And use a VWD mod of course.

Whats a VWD mod?

I have qarl and a bunch of texture mods installed. I have the game looking good, popups just annoy me because my system is barely scratching the surface, so I know I could at least reduce them.

I haven't had Oblivion installed in quite a while, but I'm sure there was more than these. I thought there was ones that were mod related, they're likely on one of those sites as well.

Also, there is Elsweyr, I know there is a VWD mod for this too:

...and Skyrim, never tried it though.

I have that, is there a way to make sure I have it installed right? I see a bunch of trees in the distance, but some infront of those I see aren't there...

Also, what's your mod list/order?

Also make sure to run TES4LODGen!!! Or else RAEVWD doesn't work at its full potential.

You'll find it at TESNexus.com. The LOD Generator does what it says, generates level of detail for all the cells in the game. After it works its magic, it will create a DistantLOD folder in your Data folder. You'll see almost EVERY structure in the distance now, no matter what your INI file says.

Warning though, it does take a good chunk of performance from your GPU. Get ready to take a 10-12fps hit.

Edit: If it is too much for your computer, just delete the DistantLOD folder.

I got a couple screen shots for you, I may just be wanting more/ expecting more than an older engine can do.

As far as what mods I'm using here is a list:

Alive Waters
Beautiful Stars
Better Nightsky
Clocks of Cyrodiil
Enhanced Water
Farview
Grape texture change
Improved Fruits vegatables and meats
IFVMU update
Improved Trees and Flora 1, 2, 2update.
QarlTP3
Rainbows in Tamriel
TES4LODGen
ULComp166
VAs Better Gold
Vaults of Cyrodiil

Just focusing on improving graphics a bit.

Edit: It won't let my screenshots upload...I just tried image shack too and it said file too big? never had this happen before, I typically do a print screen, but I used fraps... I will continue to tinker and if I can get it up I will add them.

I just downloaded the DistantLOD thing, I had no performance loss at all. I have CPU usage of 20% max and GPU never hits above 50. Thats why I feel I should be able to do more, but if I can't I guess it makes sense... Oblivion is old, and I am only playing it to hold me off for skyrim...
