no one on their right mind will recycle a i7

Heck, that pc can beat some of their imac's LOLOLOLOL

the windows disk is worth roughly half of that price. (depends what OS)

Most users with a i7 would probably try selling it before recycling it. I don't expect the original purchase price, though I don't want to be ripped off either. Core i7 $200,mobo <$80,graphics card <$100,case <$50,OS $100,HDD-<$50,aftermarket cooler <$30,monitor <$100.
Throw in a new graphics card and OC the i7,you've got a better rig than any imac.

I understand if you decide to toss in an old p4,
But people who actually donate i7 rigs are actually losing money since all they get is an Apple gift card
By losing I don't mean the complete ripoff but its like your getting negative money

I believe we all understand that. However, the curve doesn't get any better as you step down in hardware. But hey, if their intention was to magnificently undervalue hardware, then they certainly did a great job.

Wow tons of configurations are worth "near zero dollar value"

Actually, Best Buy's recycling program gave nearly double for the exact same setup in the OP.

I find it funny that if you try to recycle a full tower i7 with a display, keyboard, mouse, in excellent cosmetic condition and all passwords removed (every option checked and top of the line out of the options), all hardware works, but does not start up successfully, it automatically makes it a zero value item. Obviously they want them working.

Just sayin...
