Gigabyte 6970 Glitching on Crysis 2

Thread Starter
I bought 2 6970's to do a crossfire setup in my PC After my 580GTX Died and was given credit to buy a new card of my choice. I then ran these cards in crossfire for 3 weeks without gaming all that much but it seemed to be ok but after playing BF3 A the GFX started to tear and the pc then would reboot (I had to same problem trying to crossfire 2 4870X2's a year ago) So i thought it must be the motherboard as ive had problems trying crossfire before and stuck one of the cards on ebay.

The item sold 4 days ago but he contacted me last night saying when he plays Crysis 2 for 30-40 mins the screen display goes red and the screen rips apart.

Anyway he sent me some SS and a video of him playing while its playing up (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NRRN0ZAL) if anyone cares to take a look i would be grateful its only 100mb,

Here is a SS of it ripping/red

http://postimage.org/image/2m2mvl550/

and in the same spot but "working"

http://postimage.org/image/qnipv98k/

The card is only 5 weeks old its never had the stock cooler removed / been overclocked

What do you guys think do you think its broken and needs RMA'ing or drivers playing up?

Thanks for reading.

Regards

That's just a graphical effect. Artefacting looks different, you'd see random shapes stretching from one place to another and random colours on textures.

What about filling your PC specs so we can tell you you have a crap psu ?
How can a 580 die : Bad psu.
How can 2 high end GPU struggle : Bad PSU.
So, what is your brand ?

lol, needless to say, what Abs.exe said has the potential to be true.

It would help everyone to know the specs of the target machine (stating overclocks and volts where applicable) just so certain possibilities can be rules out. Adding this to the OP will be a good idea

The screen effect (when they try to emphasize the effect of alien presence at times) I have seen before and that is not a glitch. The redness is pretty unusual though. This is definitely not artifacting...

Does it happen when running on just one card?

(Also, megaupload says the file is unavailable)

The only way to rule out a driver issue is to up/down-grade the drivers. What version is he on now?

Maybe its true most of the time but when you spend £150 on a thermaltake toughpower 1000w and then get someone reply with "must be bad psu your 580 died" which i read here all the time it makes me giggle sometimes then i kinda get pissed off with reading it when its clearly not.

The pc specs he runs i cant really say, but im running a

QX9650 @ Stock this board is poor
Maximus II Formula
G.Skill 4GB (Not sure what model it is anymore)
Gigabyte 6970 2GB
OCZ Vertex 2
Thermaltake Toughpower 1000w

The crossfire never worked on my 4870x2 or 6970's i will prob upgrade when ivy comes out.

Im sure a 1000w PSU can run 2 6970's and if not im jesus.

Thank you.
I'm still thinking it's your psu.
What about you fill your spec so we can work on your case ?
Go somewhere else ?when I'm trying to help you out, you don't help us saying HEY GUYZ IVE GOTZ SOME FLICKERZ DEAD 580 AND NOW MY CF DOESNT WORK.

THIS IS 90% SURE IT'S POWER SUPPLY RELATED SINCE THOSE CARDS ARE ENERGY HUNGRY.

No specs we can't search for the right thing.
Once you'll have filled them we will gently help you out.

EDIT: ultralol

(I had to same problem trying to crossfire 2 4870X2's a year ago)

WHAT IS YOUR PSU I'M THRILLED NOW,
So let me resentence all your problem.
You killed a 580, you try a 6970 crossfire it does some weird stuff and you did try to quadfire 4870 and it didn't work.
I wonder what the problem is.
Hmmmm
It's may be your PWER SUPPLY ???!??!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
wanna get on my band wagon now ?

I got to agree with others, I heard there was glitch with AMD Radeon's and crysis.
I'm still interested into knowing your pc specs though
