2TB Hard drive help plz

I am about to purchase a 2TB hard drive from newegg for storage only. These are the 3 i've been looking at:
SAMSUNG EcoGreen F4 HD204UI 2TB 32MB Cache
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152245
Seagate Barracuda Green ST2000DL003 2TB 5900 RPM 64MB Cache
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148681
Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARX 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136891

I have a Western Digital My Book Essential 500GB currently using. Is it possible for me to replace the 500GB hard drive with one of those above? As I cannot afford a hard drive enclosure at the moment. If not, would this buffalo be a good buy? Thanks.

This should help make the decision for you... If you are not too worried about speed, you can get a 2TB drive for $66 or less these days (CRAZY!!!!). But page three of this review (below) gives all the specifics on the different drives, so you can make an informed decision that is right for your needs. Good Luck!

Also, if your current enclosure is SATA, then yes, you can pull out the Phillips or Torx driver, and crack er' open, and swap er' out! Just make sure ahead of time that it is in fact SATA. (if it is 3 years or less, most likely it is).

Yes the western digital my book essential case is sata and speed is not a factor since i will only use it for storage. Is there ever a deal on newegg at $66 or less for any of those brand 2TB hard drives? I don't like hitachi or other brand drives and the least i can spend the better.

Actually, I just bought the Samsung you have listed. Thus far (after being installed and updated) it's great. About to run Acronis to backup.

I will say that you need to update the firmware if you buy (I would do it just to be safe). See this link.

I'd pick the Samsung. I have it, and it's an awesome drive, and not as slow (for being a Green drive).

I do agree with rdfloyd, it needs a little firmware update. Here's the Samsung download page. In theory, drives made in 2011 have this patch already, but better safe than sorry (mine was made in jan 2011 and i still patched it). Working flawlessly along with mh F3.
