Hopefully I can get some real experience with both Steam and Origin soon, but I'm genuinely curious what features you are referring to. From what I've heard it seems Origin as a program is fairly solid.

Oh I'm not referring to the program itself haha,I'm talking about their... well, business choices. Instead of letting other devs in like steam, they've decided to lock it to EA games... thats the big one, I had a few others but its almost 3am and I've forgotten them >.<

You're certainly taking a lot of assumptions here on everyone's behalf.
I am not defensive, I am merely telling you that we know all of what you said, because we have already addressed it again and again. We have no trouble understanding both sides of the coin, but you and others keep on raising the same questions and arguments that have already been addressed multiple times in two different threads and countless of pages. You call it a lose-lose situation and I honestly cannot see how. Lose maybe for EA and Dice, but that is mainly due to EA's greedy corporate decision. If you want to "try and understand" our decisions, just read the previous pages. I am not making a lot of assumptions, just telling you how I feel and how others feel. Repeating to you what me and others have already posted is NOT an assumption, it is simply re-stating opinions that others have already stated repeatedly.

For me personally, not playing BF3 is no great loss to me. Like I said (multiple times now), I have other things to keep me busy that I won't even miss BF3. I imagine most of the people willing to forgo BF3 are in the same boat. There are endless games available for me, great games too, that it is no great loss to me to miss another FPS.

I do not trust or like EA for many reasons:

- They ruined many great franchises. Westwood is probably one of the best examples
- They have high handed DRM measures that do nothing but ruin the legitimate end user experience
- They have a piss poor track record in treating their customers correctly
- Until recently, the majority of OCN members still hated EA. It's just that in comparison to Activision, Ubisoft, and Crapcom, EA looks better.

So let me ask you, why should I allow myself to be forced to use another distribution client by a company I have no fondness for? Again, if they offer it without Origin, I will gladly buy it and simultaneously support Dice. EA will also still get my money as well.

Sure, I didn't mind EADM when it was around, it was just another D2D but what they are trying to do with it... they are trying so very hard to copy steam, but are missing one fundamental element, games from other developers.

As for your points:

1.BF2 had 64 player maps, was PC only and was a brilliant game for 2004. No doubt BF3 will be too, but what I have seen of origin has made me apprehensive, if there is no steam overlay I probably won't buy it(and I will stand my ground, not go and buy it on release haha).

2. The L4D series was made for the PC, it was only ported later, and to the 360 only so calling it consolised is a bit stupid. Not to mention it is one of the better MP games I've played.

3.The source engine is old, but it still looks brilliant for its age. This is because they keep on upgrading it... I mean if I compared CS:S to portal 2, I would've thought they were completely different engines. That is because valve saw no reason to change, I mean portal 2 is up there as one of the prettiest games around for me(the level of detail is astounding).

4. Seriously? Duke nukem as an example? I do not care for steam achievements and stuff, only that I can have the steam overlay which in the BF3 alpha wasn't supposed to work!

5. Supporting PC gaming != making a better future for PC gaming. Gaming now is a business, we cannot change that fact, however we can change what devs think we want, that is fact. We are their pay cheque, therefore if we threaten it chances are they'll listen to us.

Steam.

Especially not supported it to the point where they now literally cant even fathom using another client due to the amount of time and money they've personally invested in it.

Therefore, those who invested so much time and money in popularizing a trend (to the point where they cant even seperate from it to enjoy a game they know they would enjoy), should be the LAST guys talking about not wanting to support it, when that is EXACTLY what they have been doing.

The problem is that people are only against something like this when it is not beneficial to them.

They couldn't care less about making the business model so successful when they were getting all their sales and hyping steam through the nostril etc,

There are people in the "New counter strike!" threads literally boasting about the thousands of hours they've spent supporting a business model other publishers would now like a piece of (playing CS).

Yet they will post in this thread about their diamond strong opposition of supporting this trend.

That's why I personally cant take those who only rebel NOW seriously.

Those who are against it fully, I understand.

But those who support when everything falls into place nicely, then bring out the pitch forks when things stop going in their direction? No sympathy.
1. How do you condemn someone's actions when they are merely attempting to follow in the footsteps of someone you admire?

2. The "they dont sell other companies games" thing means nothing tbh. The very second EA sells another companies games on Origin, the argument will immediately switch to "but I dont even want to use another client other than steam anyway! So much clutterware!!"

Why did you support the founding father of "clutterware" if you didn't want it to become popular?

Where is the logic?

How do you go about vehemently supporting a system you'd absolutely hate anyone else to attempt?
No thoughts on this?

It's a lose-lose because you're missing out on a game and Dice loses money. Again, I have to ask you, what is the benefit? If you don't like BF3 and you don't buy it for that reason... well that makes sense. Avoiding it as a direct result of Origin is just stupid. I did read the previous pages, and I'm still reading all your posts, but I've yet to find one single incentive to not buy BF3 (excluding disliking the game in general). It's just substance-less whining for the sake of whining.

Not a shock, but still somewhat disappointing. Oh well, hopefully BF3 lives up to the hype.

Just because you cannot see it as a valid reason for you, does not reduce it's validity for us. There is no benefit. There is also no perceived loss for me. While I am sure that it is going to be a great game and if I played it I would enjoy it, it is no loss for me even if I don't play it or buy it, I have other games to play and keep me busy. Avoiding a game because it requires Origin to run may be stupid to you, but it is hardly stupid to me and some others. If you are still unable to understand this, then that is fine too. Simply respect our decision that we do not want to buy the game as long as it requires Origin and move on. Again, we do not care about your decision to use Origin and buy the game, why do you and others seem to care so much about our decision? Again, if you truly don't understand, that is fine too. Just accept our opinions as different yours and enjoy your game.

Thread Starter
For those that this is a deal breaker, we understand your frustration and as we may not condone it, we sympathize with you. We want you to be happy in your adventures and dont want you to write the game off until the full reveal is published and we know for certain that you have to have Origins running to install the game and don't know if you need it to play the game.

Lets now keep this thread from bashing each other. Everyone has there own opinions and are entitled to there thoughts.

I for one would not like to run origins but if i have too i will, but once again this is just my option.
