The game alone will outweigh any "troubles" with Origin, which were VERY few at the time of Alpha.

It's really not that bad.

Between not playing BF3 and using another game distribution client, I will choose to not play BF3. Good news for me? I get to save at least $60. Great news for me? More time to continue playing Skyrim when I finally get it! Oh well, as much as this sucks, I wish everyone else getting the game nothing but great happiness playing it! thumb.gif

This is neither good nor bad. Steam has been doing it since I ever heard of the Steam client. Origin is no better or worse. Like I said in a different thread, if I didn't need to have Steam to play CS 1.6, I would have never even heard of it.

What gets me is that there were so many OCNers proclaiming that Origin wasn't needed to play BF3. What was that based on? And where are they now?

It's really not that bad.

I had no troubles with Origin during the Alpha, and I even activated a few of my games on it to try it out (Mass Effect 2, BC2, Crysis 2) and it worked well for me (I even used the keys I had on Steam to activate on Origin).

Also, the games I had activated through EA Download Manager YEARS ago showed up just fine on Origin.

That said, I would choose Steam a million times over, no doubt about it. Close to 200 games on Steam, my friends are on there, never had any issues, etc. and even if some of my games are both activated on Steam AND Origin, I will still use Steam to play those games.

But is Origin going to keep me from playing and enjoying the crap out of BF3 for the next 6-12 months? Absolutely not. It'll only run in the background in order for me to play BF3, and other than that, it's like it doesn't even exist on my computer cause it won't be running except for when i am playing BF3. But apparently, that's asking too much for a lot of folks.

Well, I saw this coming already. As long as I can buy a retail version to install the game from a disk to avoid downloading the 10-ishGB monster of a game this might turn out to be, I'll be just fine. smile.gif

OMG WHAT IS THIS??

STEAM HAS FAULTS?

Just like ANY other thing on this planet?

What's this I'm reading?

Stolen accounts?!!?!

Problems installing games?!??

Purchasing problems?!!?

OMG A WHOLE FORUM OF IT!!!!!

Man, I thought these few cases of EA downloader messing about floating around on OCN was bad but I guess we were wrong huh?

It turns out a service CAN actually have a few isolated accounts of "doh!" and not actually turn out to be the anti-Christ! Unbelievable stuff that....

So a few common problems, most that are caused by user error, suddenly make Steam a horrible platform? Right.

If this is the worst you can show me about Valve then it just further shows that I have rightfully placed my trust in Valve.

My complaint is with client services and always on DRM that serves no useful purpose for the end user.

It's a sacrifice I'm willing to make, and I have been missing out on good games since long before BF3 was on the radar. There will always be others though.

And there is nothing wrong with that. I'm defending my own views, not criticizing others.

Nowhere did I see from DICE where it says that you need it to run in the background. I only seen where it says you need to have it for activation. I got BC2 from Origin and I haven't had to run it in the 1 1/2 years since I have been playing.

In that respect Origin still beats Steam. I don't want any bloatware from a company that had nothing to do with the development of the game being forced to run on my machine while I am gaming.
