(MSI R6870 HAWK) or (Zotac GeForce GTX 470 Amp)? - Page 2

If you have no luv for physX, I recommend the 6870 Hawk. The 470 Amped is slightly faster...even when both are OC'ed. You're not going to do flips over the performance difference between these 2 gpus. Both gpus are excellent OCers so either way you go, you'll be happy.

No, the 470 destroys the 6870 when both are overclocked. The overclocked 6870 is comparable to a overclocked GTX 460.

Please show me the where the GTX470 or Zotac GTX470 Amped destroys the MSI 6870 Hawk. At it's OC'ed limit, it's slightly behind a stock GTX 480 (depending on the game being played & resolution)... http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/M...0_HAWK/26.html

Thanks for the link actually. The best part is:

The actual 3D performance gained from overclocking is 5.8%.
The chart is a little strange but notice where the HD 5870 is. Here's the 470 destroying the 5870 in Metro 2033, a game that generally performs better with AMD cards:

You said yourself it was maximally overclocked so we're getting a 5% gain with the AMD card. We already know the 470 is much faster at stock and it'll at least give you a 20% overclock.

With these factors combined I think it's safe to assume the overclocked 470 is much faster than the 6870.

When you find the substantial evidence, redo the math & tell me the correct answer cuz even at stock speed when comparing the 470 & MSI 6870 Hawk, they are pratically even @ 1920 x 1200. See for yourself... http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...re-xfx-15.html {you can compare the numbers to the chart you had previously posted}

Which concludes to what I had stated before...the GTX470 & MSI 6870 Hawk are both excellent cards & basically equal in performance depending on the game being played & resolution. A reference 6870 can not be OC'ed as high as the 6870 Hawk or Sapphire 6870 Toxic. Therefore a reference 6870 is no match for an OC'ed GTX470.

An OC'ed MSI 6870 Hawk & Sapphire 6870 Toxic will go toe-to-toe against an OC'ed GTX470 / GTX470 Amped.
This debate is over

First of all you're asserting the hawk is definitely going to overclock faster than a reference card which is not true at all.

Second you should do an apples to apples comparison with two MSi hawks.

The charts you link don't even have the 470 in it so I'm not sure what you're on.... Maybe you should look at a chart and actually understand what it compares it would be helpful.

That chart at 1920x1200 shows the HD 6950 is just as fast as the 570. I bet you'll claim the 6950 is the equal of the 570 next huh?

Umm, I'm not sure which one would be best for me, because i think %5 performance isnt that important if the card will burn like hell and use much power , the important thing is the Heat for me, i live near a beach so its very warm and wet.
I'll wait till you finish your subject about the performance lol
post #18 of 74
If heat is the issue the GTX 560 Ti runs much cooler than both the HD 6870 and GTX 470.

Thanks for your reply, But I meant above these two cards. MSI R6870 Hawk & Zotac GTX 470 AMP.

GTX 470 all the way.

6870 get's beat by a 5870 in 98% of cases and over clocking brings it level with a 5870.

A GTX 470 stock keeps up or is slightly faster then a 5870 and over clocked is quite a bit faster.

Have a look at this
