Maybe I should have posted this here. I just purchased a GTX 470. Overclocked it some and bam! Beats my HD 5870 on 3dmark 11. So it would kill an HD 6870. I have gotten 840 core and 1850 memory on stock cooler at 1.025v.

Only 750MHz on stock cooling? Come on man! Do you have amnesia? You just told us your 470 is set at 800MHz w/ stock cooling. Your exact words from post #39 {see below }

That's understandable for benching but what about real-time gameplay performance

470 is faster once overclocked. However, it also runs hotter and release more heat. If heat, power consumption and noise matter to you, the 6870 would be better for slightly less performance.

The 470 is faster at stock, and by some margin

Check the anandtech GPU charts

Its been knocked down

800mhz @ 92c which I wasn't happy with so settled for 750mhz on stock voltage and 83c

Either way matey its still faster then a 6870 and that's the view of pretty much everyone in this thread. And you've yet to provide any real evdidence supporting the 6870 being faster.
