Asus turbo OC utility

Thread Starter
Using the auto tuning utility in my Asus Suite II, I am able to overclock my 2500k to 4.532 GHz, reading underneath it "103.0 x 44.0"

I still get very cool temps, reading 28-30c, not much over 55 under load.

My question is, when i am monitoring the cpu frequency with the Asus suite, why does the frequency keep dropping down to 1.632 GHz, reading underneath it "103.0 x 16.0" ? I went into the bios and disabled Intel speedstep, hoping that would stop it from decreasing all the time but it hasn't. This is while playing games, too.

My rig is as follows:
ASUS P8Z68-V PRO
Corsair 750-Watt HX Professional Series
Intel 2500k 3.4GHz
Noctua NH-D14
WD Caviar Black 1 TB SATA 6 GB/S
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit
G.Skill Ripjaws 8 GB 1600 MHz
MSI NVIDIA N460GTX Cyclone

It's a safety feature and works the way it is supose to, doesn't effect the overclock so leave both C1E and Speedstep on, it's recommended.

BTW welcome to OCN

Ok I will turn it back on, but do you know why the frequency is dropping to 1.6 GHz?

Thanks for the welcome

That's called EIST, Intel's SpeedStep technology. It reduces the clock on the processor when idle, and increases it according to the level of usage on the processor.

Just out of curiosity, how much voltage does the CPU use at 4.5Gh with the OC utility?
