Yes, it's Intel spec to have it that way.

Yes, normal Sandy Bridge is already like this. The boards with actual heatsinks where a northbridge would be are covering nF200 bridges.

It isn't supposed to, according to AMD. AMD has openly stated in the past that in the enthusiast performance desktop they cannot compete, unless they charge prices that won't sell CPUs.

That giant socket looks hideous but maybe it performs better because of the larger surface are on the chip. What sucks is that none of the coolers available on market right now will have support for it :/

LGA2011 uses the same hole pattern as 1366 I believe.

Oh. Didn't know that. I'm not really good at perspective but the chip on LGA 2011 seems a little larger then 1366. Smaller coolers will miss part of the surface. I think..

4 X 8 Slot = 32 GB of RAM, definitely overkill 400% for sure.

2 X 8 = 16 GB, still overkill, unless it's going to be a server desktop.

2 x 4 = 8 GB, probably usable by some computer professionals.

I have 2 X 2 GB (4GB) and I have never used over 3GB in my entire life!

8 Slots isn't just overkill it's a waste of good space!

There was a chat o'er in Yonder Watercooling board about block compatability, and someone cooked up this nice comparison:

http://www.overclock.net/water-cooli...terblocks.html

If you take into account slightly different camera angles, they're darn close.

From personal experience I always found that the more RAM you have in a machine the more difficult it is to OC. Still, we'll have to wait and see.

That's what you get with quad-channel busses 2 DIM slots per channel, remember the 6 slots for tri-channel and 4 slots on dual-channel boards?
