Even a 512KB/s Satellite connection will get you in business with this current model at least, so most people honestly don't have anything to complain about.
What happens if your internet connection is messed up for some reason?
What happens if the game company's servers get hacked and are shut down?
What happens if the company goes bankrupt and the servers no longer even exist?
What happens in 10 years when you feel like playing some of your old games for the heck of it?

It isn't as simple as "put the disc in and play" anymore, and darnit it should be.

I will not pay full price for this game with this DRM. Carmack is losing his touch anyway.

I could be wrong but didn't carmack step down as ceo just to focus on the technical side of things. Not saying this isnt bad, just pointing out I don't think carmack is to blame for this.

Correct.

Infact, he even sold id to ZeniMax two years ago.

I don't see the point of annoying players who actually buy their copies, and for that matter, of DRM at all. Sure, it'll make it a little bit more difficult to crack the game, but that is the extent of it's usefulness.

Cracking is a process where one decompiles an EXE, finds the lines of code that cause requirement of a CD, or ping company servers, and removes those lines. This may take the cracking process outside the confines of the EXE, but it'll be just as easy to find. Pirating is inevitable.

Sigh, make a game that requires a crack to play properly, after you PAID good money for it. That outta reel in the customers.

Then of course there an alternative where people can download a version that has no DRM and cost.........nothing?

Jeez, and devs are wondering why piracy is the problem. Oh what it's not....

It will only be the future of gaming if quitters like you don't vote for DRM free games with your wallet. No matter what you think you are part of the problem not the solution. Sorry if that sounds rude, but sometimes the truth hurts.
