Thread Starter
Trying to find a good security cam setup for my business

This is one setup i found but the price without hard drive is kind of a lot for me

Do i need a special monitor or special hook up convertor for dvr

do they use sata hard drives?

Do i just plug the ethernet cord into the back of my pc or router?

couldn't really find where else to post about security

Edit: need to be able to view from pc at home away from work and need to be able to check on it from my Evo mobile

I don't see a link to the one you're referring to, but I will ask what kind of budget you have and how many cameras do you need? Also, do you have need for any special types of cameras?

At my work we use mainly Lorex systems, but also have a few Mace and SecurityLabs. Plus there's a bunch that you can find that are "house specials". If you want a quality systems with many options, I would recommend Lorex or Mace. Since you want to protect your business, you want to make sure the system does what you need and is reliable.

I have seen some systems that come from Sam's Club, or different electronics stores that aren't bad either. The biggest problem I run into is that a lot of different manufacturers are very proprietary. Some use 6-pin din, some RCA, some BNC, and even with the proper physical adapters they sometimes don't play well together.

If you get a system with a dedicated DVR, you can put in your own HDD. Most of the older ones we have in our company came with 80GB drives which I have been swapping out. The newer DVR's we buy come with 250-500GB. It also depends on how many cameras and how long you want to retain the data.

Output from the DVR's are usually BNC or VGA. If you have a BNC output you can convert it to VGA with a .
RCA to BNC just takes an adapter, then can be converted to VGA.

If you can give a few more details of exactly what you'd like to do, I can probably help you out a little better.

Just my 2c worth...hope it helps,

Rich
