6950 or wait until 7000?

Thread Starter
Hey guys at a dilemma just wondering if i should go ahead and get a 6950 or 6970 or just wait until the 7000 series come out.

If its going to be pricy 500-600 range then i should just get the 6950 now? and wait a little longer and grab another 6950 and cf the two?

Thanks

me thinks they'll be releasing the 7000s by next year so, if you can still hold out a lil longer maybe you should opt to wait....else you'll be suffering from buyer's remorse.

I'm in the same boat. I am waiting for the 7000's. There is just too much potential for them to be beyond phenomenal to get the 6950.

lol the ever present PC hardware waiting game! If I just sit on my hands for the next year I'll get the best for the whole year after I already waited a year!

If what you currently have can't handle what you do with your computer its time to upgrade unless you know for a fact something is coming within the next month-2 months. It looks to me the next gen of cards is Q3-4 of 2012.

Your 4870 1gb should be able to do fine with current games, why do you need to upgrade?

I upgraded over my 512mb 4850 because it just wasn't cutting it at 1080p, I didn't want to wait because I wanted to be able to enjoy it now and not wait a year. Besides the wat hardware vs software is now you will be upgrading for like 1 or 2 games where your 4870 can max out everything else. A 6950 has more than enough power to last a long time.

maybe the same price as what 6950 and 6970 is when they were first released...

I'm very satisfied with my 6950.. I believe it can still handle games that will be released during the 7xxx series' time.

AMD is bent on getting 7000 series out by 2011. If you can wait 3-4 months, it'll be worth it.
