Bsod error when computer is idling

Thread Starter
I have a strange bsod error when my computer is sometimes idling.I would come back 1 hour later and get a bsod error. The top of the screen says "memory managment error"

I already checked bios, thinking I might have overclocked the memory too much. But nothing is overclocked. The error doesn't happen when I am at my computer.Just when it's idling.

What else can I check?

I'm by no means an expert, but I would imagine it has something to do with the sleep/powersaver settings since it's only when you're away. What type of power saver settings are you utilizing?

Well, memory is RAM, give or take.
So uh, run a test on your RAM.

Do you have anything running in the background when this happens?
I've heard of this happening to a lot of people when their computer tries to go into Sleep or Standby mode.

Could you manually check if you can go into sleep/standby and see if that's the cause?

Another possible option is you may be infected with Grayware. Its software that uses your computer for 3rd party resources when idle. This was popular to 'choose' to do for research companies, back in the day, now its just malicious. Get a good scanner, and have it scan boot-time.

avast 6.0 release is great and offers x64 os compatibility for boot-time scanning

Either a RAM fault or a Hard drive fault. More likely the former.

Run Memtest86 with one stick of RAM at a time.

When the same thing happens to you, by all means, try it in a way you see fit.

Just because it's at idle doesn't mean the hard drive stops moving or the RAM stops being used.

fishinfan,

If the memory check that That Guy suggested does not turn up any error or fault, have you installed and new programs or hardware? Did you update and drivers lately?

Have you tried a malwarebytes scan?
