Is the trackpad the same on both the Pro and Air?
I just bought a 2011 macbook air
and i love it. Its my first mac ever.
Much faster then my comp when booting and just general browsing and stuff

when i wanna go to play on my sig rig. plus my mba can play sc2 on medium low for a bit so thats good

dont recommend the 13" pro
it cost more then the air and the air has better specs (comes with 128gig ssd) and its thin and weighs like 3x less. its so light. My g/f has the 13" pro and its so heavy

Easily the macbook air. Unless you equip the pro with an SSD, the air is going to be much, much faster. and if you have a base computer like your gaming rig you'll be able to drive share for the one or two times in the life of the air that you'll use disks. Definitely. Air!

How important is it to get apple care?
Get the air its all flashbased..
very light FAST (specially the new models)
battery lasts for about 7 hours with heavy use..but if your only using it for school and classes like word and presentations it can last longer..

macbook is nice to but heavier.
and bigger..
its nice for gaming though
has the 6750m GPU
the 2.2 model has the 2720qm processor...
its nice but way to expensive..

AIR is the way to go with this one..
(plus you can get open office and such like to not add to the cost of the air.)
gimp open office vlc thats all a portable needs

Trackpad is the same (they are awesome trackpads)

Heading to college and not having a Mac would bite, everyone in college thinks they are awesome (been there). I'd pick up the new Air, they are amazingly reasonable now, powerful (i5+SSD anyone?), and super portable (compared to a regular laptop). Or you could just go the ThinkPad route

This.

Super durable, fantastic trackpad, best keyboard on a laptop hand down, and more powerful than a Macbook. Also, the T420S gets like 30 hours of battery life with the slice battery, IIRC.

MacBook Pro, I have the 2011 13" Model andI personally use it more then my desktop. I don't game very much. I don't find a reason to use it over the Mac lol.

The OS is pretty easy to navigate like you may heard, but most you ever do is probably web browser, word processing and itunes.

The GPU in this is pretty decent for IGP. It handles tf2 all low at 30fps during choke points. Can handle bioshock at max settings and so on.

I personally choose the Pro over the air as you can change out the HDD for a bigger one or to a ssd. It a little heavier but I don't mind it. A little more powerful.

Air feels like i'll be able to snap it if im not careful. :\\

I suggest heading to bestbuy or an apple store and check it out in person.

At times I get buyer's remorse for getting the Pro over the Air, mainly of course because of the weight difference (college student here as well; I wanted a Mac replacement for my netbook).

But then the extra weight comes with extra ports, a wider color gamut display (at the slight cost of resolution of course; I don't mind it, even after staring at the U3011 most of the time), OCD-free of wondering whether I got a LG or Samsung display, as well as either a Toshiba or Samsung SSD (AnandTech showed a definite difference between the two).

And then there was that talk of how there's a slight gradient at the bottom of the displays...dunno what ever happened to that. And also a rumored speaker problems, where some people were getting crackling sound; again, I don't know what ever became of that.

But yeah, since you already have a main computer, and you will be traveling with it a lot, the Air definitely seems like the one you should go for!
