Macbook Pro vs Air - Page 3

The Samsung SSD is the better of the two correct?

Which brand screen do you want and why?

Also, is there any way of improving my chances to get either? I.E. do the recently produced models have the Samsung SSD?
i am also facing this dilemma. MBA or MBP? if the ssd is the only thing making the difference, then i will go with the MBP because i can use the ssd from my desktop (256gb). on a side note, i play sc2.

I had a last gen 15" mbpro for college and recently got a new 15" pro for law school. There's no other way to go for a work computer IMO. Can't vouch for the 13", but the 15" is awesome. The 500 gb ssd is super fast as well.

If I am not mistaken heat can be more of an issue on the Air. Compact components/chasis and less extensive cooling heatsinks/system... just my two cents.

The AppleCare was super important for my lady friend. Got her a brand new Pro for a dead regular MacBook after 2 years of abuse just last month.

I play too many video games on the go to ever consider Mac, but after seeing and using both... the Air has a feminine appeal to it being so compact.... So the MBP just looks more neutral and official... good for work/school. No offense to anyone, I am justed used to bigger and bulkier primitive PCs

Subpar is subjective and negative sounding. Its not prone to failure (unless its something I am not aware of)

Logically put it has to remove heat by ambient air or through direct physical contact with heatsinks. Both of which are in very short supply in a very compact air.

The CPU is supposed to be low voltage but I can't see how it can remain cool when going full throttle playing a video game or rendering images. Its even worse gaming as the heatsink is shared with an IGP chipset unless its onboard the CPU die. Which still makes the CPU extremely hot.

With the air
the samsung is the better screen, but people posted calibrated icc profiles so getting the LG vs the Samsung screen doesnt matter cause there are calibrated profiles out there

the Samsung vs Toshiba SSD benchmark wise the samsung has faster reads and writes, but Toshiba has faster random speeds
which resolves in faster boot and applications boots

but honestly my friend has a samsung ssd and i have the toshiba, boot time and wake up time from sleep is exactly the same.

You wont notice speed differences.
if you are getting a base 13" MBP it is not worth it. It costs more than the MBA and it has worse specs.

The speaker problem happens if your on max volume and it is a certain sound that makes it crackle. I havent noticed it on my air yet.

I really recommend the MBA over the MBP.

The MBP are not worth it anymore

I can see apple doing this in the future
only have 4 laptops
MBA 11"
MBA 13"
MBP 15"
MBP 17"

And the new MBP would be a little slimmer than they are now

I'm actually leaning towards the Pro now. None of that gradient at the bottom of screen or anything else to worry about.

The Pro I can get from Best Buy by having them price match Microcenter for $999. The Air is $1249. That's a $250 difference I could use towards an SSD and 8gb RAM, which would make it pretty beastly.
