Throttle Torrents - Page 4

It's in QOS in your router's settings.

This is how I do it at my house.

Since most devices are wireless, I set the speed they get to a maximum of 300kB/s each. All wired PCs get the full speed.

google common ports for p2p networks, go to router config and block said ports...
torrenting problem solved... for the time being

short of that, set up QoS to limit bandwidth per device attached to router
google and ask.com should have all relevant information regarding QoS and your specific router

You are COMPLETELY missing the point...Of course using p2p to update games is legal. And of course p2p being used legally and illegally looks the same. That isn't what we are talking about here.

Do you pay for net? If not leave it alone and let them use how they want. If you do tell them you want bandwidth because you pay for it. If they don't agree get your own line and let them pay for their own.

Can you talk her into limiting her bandwidth to like 70% or so as to avoid the lag spikes at least?

How I do it, I install netlimiter and use the "add rule" to the entire PC, and you choose the upper limit for either or both download and upload.

http://www.netlimiter.com/ There should be a free version.

Im not missing the point. Was replying to the ILLEGAL point that was being made.
I still want to see the guy blocking torrents via the ports sucessfully. Thats how many ports to block?

If the person is sharing with you whos paying for the internet?
If you share. Compromise. Go to the person and talk to him. Ask him to limit his connections to 10 (XP default). Thats more than enough connections for torrents and to achieve great speed as half open ports thing was a bigger myth than anything else.
Trying to cut bandwith under the table is not the correct way or decent thing to do.

NOR is that what I suggested. If you go back and actually read my post, you will see that I suggested he ask them to COMPLETELY stop if they are downloading copyrighted material. It is illegal, and if his name is on the bill, could get him in legal trouble. (which, by the way, was the point you completely missed again)

Just ask them to lower their upload rate during times you play.
