Will MSI accept an overclocked card? - Page 2

They most definitely will accept an overclocked card. They're actually extremely good about RMA's in my experience. I bought used from someone here, had the card die, sent it in, got back another bad card, sent it in and they replaced it every time. And any opportunity I had where the card actually worked I overclocked it as high as I could.

Are you sure it's actually dead? Try resetting your cmos/reseating your card so that the card resets to stock clocks. I had it happen once that I set a pretty steep overclock and then the card wouldn't display at all, after restting cmos/reseating the card it was actually working I just needed it to forget the overclock ;P.

Either way good luck. I would suggest you call MSI for the RMA instead of doing it online. You'll just get everything done quicker(when calling I had RMA# and label same day, online I had it take a few days before getting my number). Not to mention the fact that when I called they didn't even ask once about OC of the card.

Please remember, they ship their cards with MSI AFTERBURNER!! They expect you to OC. That's pretty much one of the predominantly used OC tools out there.

EDIT: As others have said, unless there's actual physical damage(i.e. VRM burned up^^^^) you should be absolutely fine.

Nope resetting the BIOS didn't help (I had already tried it on another motherboard and it didn't work either). I always thought that MSI Afterburner settings were only set once Windows loaded anyways?

Why is it okay as long as there isn't physical damage? Like I said, it smelled like something had burned but I just didn't see anything on the chip to reflect that.

I'll call them now, but what should I say? Obviously not mention anything about OCing it but should I mention that it smelled like something had been burned? Just say that it shut off randomly and now won't work? Sorry, I'm new to overclocking so I've never really done this.

I would return it, but DONT tell them about OCCT, just say it died out randomly.

edit: say it died during MSI kombustor or something

You don't have to do any explaining, the card died and that's final, all you gotta say for an RMA.

MSI is great with rma, you shouldn't have any issues. If you want you could always pm MSIalex and see what he says.

So I just shipped the card out today (hopefully they accept it). If not I'll just go with the GTX 570.

Before this next card arrives (if it does), could I get some advice for overclocking this one more safely? The two things I think I did wrong is #1) use OCCT and #2) increase the memory clock in too high of intervals (50 MHz). Granted I was only at 870/1740/1900 when I fried it (at 1.087v). Anything else that's crucial that I might be missing?

The way I OC'ed it was by increasing the core clock in 10 MHz jumps until I reached the max possible at 1.087v and then start with the memory clock at 50MHz jumps, that's a pretty standard way right?

They'll accept a 465 that has been unlocked to a 470. I don't see why they wouldn't accept an overclocked card.
In progress.
