i couldn't justify spending $10+ on a different TIM when I could use that money to buy a better cooler.
That stuff is garbage. Get the Cooler Master Thermal Fusion 400 or some OCZ Freeze on ebay.

i've used OCZ Freeze and that stuff is nice but pricey... also 3C isn't that big of a diff for me.

Everything held the same (everything).

4.5ghz, 1.312v:
AS5: 64-65C
CM: 66-67 mostly 67 steady

4.8ghz, 1.41v:
AS5: 78-80
CM: 81-83

All numbers are taken towards the end of a 10 minute Prime Small FFT run. I did run a 2.5hr run with AS5 earlier, Prime Small FFT, and only saw a max temp of 82. Only 15 minutes into the CM run I already see 84.

Final edit: This cant be Thermal Fusion 400. For one, its not in a TF400 syringe, its just in this really generic crappy looking tube. If it was a good product of theirs you'd think they'd put the name on it........

I wasted my time, I dunno why I believed that this would be good paste, I need to think first next time.

My ambients are in the range of 30-35C. Pretty high, I know! But then again, it's to be expected of Las Vegas. The guide I used for overclocking to where I am now is this one. It's super informative, and pretty much walks you through it.

Lynnfields run crazy hot at 4ghz and above. I had to ditch my 212+ for a d14 and then eventually water just to keep my 860 under 80c at 4.1ghz.

I would definitely get a better cooler.

nuu.... i got a i7 860 for the opposite reason... what temps were you getting with that d14?

i'm good with 4.0 so hopefully it'll be below 80C

1.45v is pretty high, did you work your way up or plug in some settings?

Not many people bother to do it step by step these days but try to push the chip as far as possible on stock volts - 1.24V. Up the voltage to 1.25 only if needed to push the chip further, then 1.265V and so on. You might get pretty close to 4GHz on as little as 1.3-1.35V and for that the 212+ is quite adequate.
My P182 and the CPU temps (w/ CM212+) are pretty sensible to the speed of the upper two tri-cool fans. On medium fan setting the case seems to be unable to output more than about 200W, furmark+prime give so much heat that unless the fans are on full speed the heat builds up and no matter what CPU cooler I'd have the CPU would still be hot.
Bottom line: OC step by step with minimum voltage and test the CPU temp while changing the speed of the upper two fans.
