Thanks for the suggestions, but out of curiosity why the push away from the active speakers I listed earlier?
Are these significantly better?

More future proof. You can upgrade the speakers at any time you want, you can add a sub EASILY, and the amp is also a headphones amp too.

And the Polk TSi100's are excellent speakers. The Dayton B652's (if you wanted to go all out, and just upgrade the bookshelfs later) are honestly not half bad either. They easily sound like $100-150 set of speakers.

I own the DTA-100a and B652's myself. Saving for the sub later on (working on finishing my home theater first....those TSi100's are likely my next buy, 2 pairs....or Monitor 30's). I can share a few video's of my setup too, powering the B652's, and my Pioneer 12" towers.

Sigh...I think I wanted to avoid something I could upgrade for fear that I would...well want to upgrade X) ("Hmm I forgot you could tempt me with things I want.")
I think my other hesitation comes from the fact that although upgrading itself is easier, the path seems less certain.

Is that a good amp? I didn't see it on the recommended speaker amp thread (though it is admittedly two years old now).
I'm slightly tempted by somenamehere's used Omega Claro (definitely over budget though I imagine I wouldn't have to upgrade soon (ever?)) but I wonder if it would be wasted on me. How does the Xonar DG/DS line up? Is it just a budget card or more middle of the road?

Thinking of going for the Polks, but a video would be most helpful thanks

That's why I suggested good gear to start off with. Once you get good speakers, they don't go out of style.....ever. You never really HAVE to upgrade, unless you want to step deeper into being an audiophile.

The amp is excellent. I couldn't be more happy. It stays clean (up to about 3/4 volume), TONS of power, and its nice and small. The Xonar DG/DS is a budget card from what I understand of it. I honestly don't know sound cards that well, and that is one section I'm trying to learn better.

Here's some videos of my Dayton DTA-100a pushing my B652's and my CS-405 towers. Keep in mind, those towers take 100w RMS easily, the bookshelfs honestly take about 60w RMS (guesstimated).

Wow thanks so much for your help pioneer (and everyone else).
Sold on the amp.
I believe I'm sold on the speakers (I think I'll go with the Polks).
Hesitant to not have a sub, but that'll just be an add on if I need it.

Final question:
Would a better sound card be lost on me/this equipment? I'd rather not go with just a budget card, but if that's all that will be noticed with this setup then it's pointless

It's a completely analogue amplifier, so you DO need a good DAC (sound card). Whether its a budget one or a good one, that's your call. I don't know sound cards all that well, but I've seen the Xonar line recommended a lot for music.

I can DEFINITELY tell, even with my cheapo $35 Dayton B652 bookshelfs, that I'm on onboard sound, now that I have proper speakers.

So, am I the only one who read the title and was expecting to offer math help?
