i7 990x Stable OC on water ?

Thread Starter
If anyone has this cpu or knows whats the possible "stable" overclock you can get on water cooling ? Also a overclock that can be used 24 hours and 7 days a week in other words have it overclocked till you have the cpu
post #2 of 7
i can run a core my DO core i7 920 @ 4.2GHz at 1.256V 100% stable, and 4.5GHz at 1.384V without a problem. all on air. than i installed my water cooling. and MY MY. my volts went much lower!

I've gotten 4.7GHz on water, without trying much. I think a 990X can do 5GHz stable in 1 night

Sorry, Dont mean to change the topic but I just have to know what settings you used to achieve these clocks? Ive been trying for months to get stable over 4.2GHz on water with no joy - BSOD with Prime95? Ive got a similair board (yours is better though) so I guess I'm missing something in the BIOS.
Sorry again to the OP

I don't have the settings written down, and my computer is at home, and I just upgraded my motherboard so I don't have the settings, but follow the i7 OC Guide in my sig, chadmir's guide works well! I just tampered for a few weeks and got 4.5GHz stable without a problem. good temps, etc.
Ram was underclocked and at 1.65V is all i remember, and CPU multi was at x21 (most stable multiplier)

EDIT: those are the clock on my old ASUS P6T Deluxe V2 motherboard, now I have a much better Gigabyte G1.Killer
The Asus P6T Deluxe V2 is rubbish, I went through 4 motherboard because the motherboard died when installing the CPU waterblock.... this G1.Killer is much better!

Thanks. I'll have a look and see how it goes. If I'm still not getting anywhere might look for a new board. Pretty cheap now anyway due to the Sandybridge release.
