Keeping your rig in a dark place could also help since algae is photosynthetic and it is one of the main pests in loops. Put a blanket over your rig if you are leaving for vacation or something.
I have the curtains shut most of the time so the sun doesnt come in on all the gear anyway. I also cover the PC up when not in use...helps prevent dust too

UV lights might help keep it from growing. UV light are sort of toxic to plants.
