We don't need a 3rd party program, the OS does it by itself quite easily.

If you're trying to say that Oh linux is so hard to use and see how massively right you are...Well, good luck, Ubuntu and Mint are easier to use than Windows.

Install Equinox GTK theme collection and Faenza icon theme ! Time reduced by 40%,you just have to do this:

Quote:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gtk2-engines-equinox equinox-theme faenza-icon-theme

I don't think you would, but I think you'd try.

To clarify - switch permanently; I've run linux since I got hold of a Red Hat 6 promo disk. I ran gentoo as my primary (and only) os for over a year, I've tried redhat, slax, gentoo, debian, freebsd, ubuntu. My firewalls run linux and so does my web server.

So I would most definitely make a permanent switch (on my desktop) if linux had gaming. smile.gif

And the other distros? because 1 distro operates without command line,i have to say that the entire world of linux operates without command line? Give me a break.
But the people who don't know how to use command line won't be using the distros that require you to will they?

What is your point?

God forbid if Linux can't automagically read your mind and do everything for you...

Linux isn't perfect by any means. But neither is Windows, and there are advantages to both. Windows' advantages start and end with it's market adoption.
When it comes down to Microsoft makes their money by getting businesses to use their products and support. There are only very few other companies that offer the same kind of deal (Oracle and SAP) and those companies' software stacks are less familiar to the general public. GNU/Linux and other open source software is basically only a viable alternative for tech companies that have their own team and don't need [as much] support.

As for the desktop environment, nobody has done with GNU/Linux what Apple has done with BSD. No company has taken GNU/Linux and really pushed it to become a fully functioning, polished, completely user-friendly desktop OS. A couple companies have tried and have basically halfassed it for one reason or another. For those companies, I'd blame lack of capital to invest in its development.

As it stands, GNU/Linux is not in the same market as Microsoft and as the years pass, Microsoft's market is getting more and more niche. Meanwhile GNU/Linux's market is expanding (mobile, netbooks etc...). They each have their respective markets and while Microsoft has found its place, GNU/Linux is still finding new places where it fits well.

If you can make similar changes on Windows without breaking the EULA, I'll eat a sock.
I was gonna say that!

yes... I understand what you are typing - for my money, the fact that the DTE just sits there until YOU want to make a change, is the very definition of elegance
