3) Just because YOU are satisfied with Windows in it's current state doesn't mean Microsoft must halt all development work.

What really gets to me is that this has been discussed at length, and now you barge in on page 5, after having (at best) only read the OP, and then feel the need to declare to the world that W8 is entirely unnecessary, because YOU are still happy with Windows 7.
Actually I read the whole topic. Yes that's right, the whole topic!

Just because you are interested in using Windows on a tablet, doesn't mean I should get Windows 8 too. I'm most likely not going to get it because for me Windows 7 works well, and Windows OSes are expensive.

+1. I'm happy with this machine, and I don't think I would be able to find an equivalent machine when Win8 comes out. I am not interested in buying new hardware when the current hardware is perfectly functional.

I am not interested in "tiles" either. If Win8 has tiles - I will never, never use it.

Win 8 will be the new vista and win 7 will be the the next xp. I won't upgrade from 7 until they ditch the dumb mobile interface.

You do know there is two DE's in Win 8 right? One is the regular one similar to/building off Win 7, and the other is the touch input one with large squares.

I'm sticking with Win7 for a while. I'll wait for Win9.

Very true, a 2/3 year gap is more the norm for Windows releases. Its obvious that the XP to Vista gap was an exception and one we should not expect in the future. Windows 8 will come out in 2012, so expect Windows 9 by 2015.

By the way does anyone know if Microsoft will ditch 32-bit with Windows 8 and make it exclusively a 64-bit OS?

It is in fact rumored to be 64-bit only, which I agree should be how it's done. There's absolutely no reason for anyone to be running a 32-bit OS now. Windows x64 can run any x86 application (in my experience) flawlessly.
