AMD gaming rig a waste? - Page 6

Bulldozer will overclock to 5.2 GHz on air, and stock will be 3.9 GHz 8 cores, 4.5 GHz turbo mode at 4 cores. I have seen the benchmarks, and its by no means secret.

Also, the benchmarks even on stock outperform the Intel 2600k in a heartbeat. Personally I would never buy an Intel simply because of how out of wack their business plan is, but still, it will be nice to actually be able to say "My CPU kicks your ass" if only for a while.

Edit: Note I am talking about top of the line model for around 300 buckaroos.

You have to realize that everyone on this forum is usually a fanboy.
A select few will actually give you straight up answers.

I love both amd and intel as I have owned both in the past and right now actually.

What I have to say is that the 8 core bulldozer will cost around 300 dollars.
This 8-core will maybe keep up with the 2600k. We have no way of knowing this really..

I personally am selling all my computer equipment right now and just keeping my 980x office rig until BD comes out.

If it happens to be able to keep up with our hopes and dreams then I will be getting a rig based on the architecture. I really do hope AMD lives up to our expectations though.

I say go with the 955 and wait for BD, just get that am3+ motherboard and rock it for a month

One of the reasons I wanted to ask the community here about this is that this forum us super busy, and I think generally the opinions on here are more varied than on our local forums. I'm not so worried about spending a bit more on the ROG board than on a cheaper AMD board, I can afford the ROG board and the rig will still make my budget. What nags at me is spending similar money on an Intel board and getting less for it and an intel rig in general comes out more expensive.

Obviously if the AMD system was plain bad that'd be different, but if it can at least keep up and even possibly go toe to toe with the Intel when the new chips come out then suddenly the Intel platform doesn't shine so brightly anymore, at least in my opinion...
You know you already want an AMD build, so go for it.

Don't lie to yourself. I know you're searching for different opinions but I can already see from posts like these that you are very inclined to buy an AMD platform rig.

Stop wasting your time and get it! Remember to show us pics of your new rig.

On a side note, don't really count on Bulldozer. Sure, you can wait for it... But who reALLY knows when will it arrive?

Whats your point? 22nm, tri gate transistors, ES benches already show 10-15% better IPC at same clocks and less voltage.

Amd had its day and now it's intel's turn. For the money SB is the best product available today and like said above supports ivy. AM3+ only supports bulldozer then amd is EOLing it for FM2 and Bulldozer Enhanced. Tell me again whats the point in buying a new socket just to have it EOLed in 7 months?

I'd say get the 2500K because buying a placeholder is a waste of money. Though if you are set on BD just get a $50 athlon X2 for now.

at the moment intel will help u get better fps will be a little more expensive but if ur on a tight budget amd is ur best bet just get a 990fx(amd) mobo and u can upgrade to bulldozer when i comes out, i preffer intel but there is nothing wrong with amd at all for the price you pay i think its pretty decent for what you get

anyway, you seem set on amd.

Might as well....
I have a 945 c2 that clocks up to 4.4 ghz on water...
I am selling it for 100 shipped.
Probably like 110 out of the US.

Cheaper than 955 and they are essentially the same..
